Attention Purpose-Driven Churches – “America’s pastor” Rick Warren is leading his Saddleback Church down the path of deception with his new Daniel Plan that kicked off January 15, 2011. If your church follows the PD (purpose-driven) model or is a supporter of Rick Warren, the time has come for you to seriously evaluate your relationship with the church and admonish the leadership to discern Warren’s intentions to embrace eastern religious meditative practices.
Scripture is clear in 2 Corinthians 6:14 to touch no unclean thing (v. 17):
Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
However, this is exactly what Rick Warren has done in developing the Daniel Plan with New Agers Drs. Oz, Amen, and Hyman. While over the years Warren has associated with questionable men in the Emergent Church and Leadership Network, this latest move to indoctrinate Saddleback and the 1000’s of churches following his PD models with pagan contemplative spirituality and mysticism (CSM) is most obvious. These mystical meditative practices are dangerous and unbiblical, and they open up the door to the spiritual realm where its practitioners become susceptible to demonic influence and even possession.
Even so, Rick Warren has welcomed these wolves into his church. Recently, Dr. Oz, who is a practitioner and promoter of Reiki, invited pantheist New Age guru and false teacher Deepak Chopra to his Dr. Oz show to discuss implementing eastern-style meditation into one’s diet plan. In fact, in this video Dr. Oz was emphatic about the usefulness of meditation to health and wellness and highly encouraged his audience to practice it at least 5 minutes a day. After Chopra led the audience into a brief meditation, he went on to say one might become an expert within a few months. Of course, the audience immediately embraced meditation without an ounce of discernment.
Though seemingly benign, these meditative practices cannot be found in Scripture. What’s more, practitioners of contemplative spirituality suggest contemplative prayer and other mystical meditative practices are the bridge between religions (such as Tony Campolo). In truth, however, CSM is just another tool used by Satan to pollute the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ as it bridges the gap for interfaith dialogue and welcomes ecumenical cooperation for the sake of social justice and peace.
Unfortunately, this short article cannot possibly explain all of the dangers of CSM and the reasons why Rick Warren’s sheep costume is eroding at the sleeve. To those who endorse and respect Rick Warren, some of whom are pastors in the Charlotte region – what will you do with this information? Will you continue to lead people astray? It is one thing to not protect your sheep out of ignorance, but it is quite another to willfully lead them to the slaughter. Pray for God to give you discernment and to make these deceptive strategies of Rick Warren apparent to you. You are accountable before God and will have to face Him with what you do with this information.
If you attend a church who endorses Rick Warren, it is vital for you to speak up and share this information with your church leaders.
