I ponder what it will be like for the majority of Americans at the Great White Judgment. Will it be for them as it will be for the adulterous Jewish generation who rejected the Gospel of the Kingdom, when “the men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here” (Matthew 12:41)?
America is saturated with Bibles and Gospel preaching, yet most Americans complacently disregard the very Word of God that is right at their fingertips. Faithful churches committed to sound doctrine and the building up of God’s people are swallowed up in the shadows of liberal and mega prosperity, seeker-sensitive churches teaching false, powerless, man-centered gospels. Faithful men herald the Gospel in the streets, but most walk by putting off the warnings that God’s wrath is coming.
Will wretched sinners who have turned to Christ in repentant faith rise up to condemn you on that day?
In Jonah’s day, great revival occurred and all of Nineveh repented. In 20th century America, the religious right sought to impose morality absent of the Gospel on a sliding generation, and the fallout of the culture war has this nation worse off than before (Matthew 12:43-45). Niniveh feared God and repented in faith; America has rejected God and embraced moral relativism, resulting in the slaughter of 54 million children and the cultural acceptance of homosexual marriage (and increasing acceptance by law).
Will the people of Nineveh condemn and testify against you for your hardened heart at the Great White Throne?
Will it be for Americans as it will be for the people of Capernaum? If Sodom had heard the Gospel as America has heard the Gospel, might they have repented and remained until this day? Will it be more tolerable for Sodom on the day of judgment than it will be for America? (Matthew 11:20-24)
Dear friend, you will be without excuse on that day. Perhaps you are familiar with Christian religion, but you have never come into a personal collision with the One True Holy God who made you in His image. Perhaps you have not given needed consideration for how your sins will be punished. But perhaps you have, but you continue to suppress the truth in your unrighteousness, just as Sodom did, and just as the Jews of Jesus’ day did.
Woe to you on that day if you die as a guilty criminal and face the terrible wrath of God. It would be better if you had never been born. Woe to you if you know the truth in your head, but you continue in your rebellion against God, even professing to be a Christian, but continue to take pleasure in your sins. It will be much worse for you on that day, for you knew the truth, but you did not love it so to repent.
The day of reckoning is today, even now. Come to your senses and consider your soul. Jesus is coming, and today is the day of salvation. Repent and believe the Gospel. You can learn more about that Terrible Day and how you can flee from it, below. Oh, how I pray you will!
