When one says he is a “Calvinist” or “reformed” or confesses to believe in the “doctrines of grace”, he is merely concisely stating his theological position. As for me, I’ve never even read anything of John Calvin to date, so I am hardly a “follower of Calvin”.
What I am, however, is a Christian who upholds the sovereignty of God in all things, most certainly in the salvation of the souls of men. As Ephesians 1:3-14 clearly reveals, the redemption of man is for the glory of God alone to the praise of the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet, there is an abundance of additional passages through Scripture that further support God’s electing grace, which is the point of this series.
The following six articles provides 68 reasons why God sovereignly saves His people from their sin and from His wrath through the Lord Jesus Christ and the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. I invite you to read through each article no matter where you are in the theological spectrum. My hope is that you will be edified in your understanding of God’s amazing grace.

Well said. I do not wish to be called reformed, Calvinist, Calvinistic or any other name other than to be identified as one who has been saved by the work of God, through Christ, through no merit, power, wisdom or life of my own. Therefore, I will boast ONLY in the Cross of Jesus Christ.

Hi! Thank you for your articles. I just discovered your blog and I am so glad I did.
Anyway, four years ago, I did an independent verse by verse study of Ephesians, and right off, I began to see and understand more fully the sovereignty of God. I had been a believer for 11 years and been studying the Bible since the Lord saved me. However, there are times when the Holy Spirit increases one’s understanding and allows the believer to see truth like never before.
After studying Ephesians I became more convinced and had a better understanding that the great I AM is sovereign and there is nothing that will thwart His will. Everything He does, He does according to His will and purpose, for His pleasure and ultimately for His glory. He is God and after all He will display His attributes as He wills.
In sharing and discussing the sovereignty of God with other believers, I come away with the impression that this attribute makes so many believers nervous. They start thinking about how inconsequential our role in our salvation is, and how the same is true in our sanctification which is effected by the works of the Holy Spirit. In the end, He saved us, He keeps us and He will present us to Himself spotless and blameless for His glory alone! No glory for the flesh.
So, every time I read Ephesians 2:1, I see that a dead person cannot make himself alive, but reading further, the believer sees who made us alive in Christ Jesus in verse 4: “But God…” The Lord God raises the dead; He is the Sovereign of the Universe and there is none like Him!

Oh, I meant to also express how much more my heart is humble in the knowledge that He extended grace to me, a wretched sinner, and in His love endured my sin to subsequently call me His own.
It has also made me to pray and seek the Lord for all those who will believe, that they should come to know Him as the loving Savior and Lord that He is.
I want all the more to live for His glory!
